This July, Eley’s Pork Pies had the honour of representing Ironbridge and Shropshire at the Taste of Shropshire event held at the Palace of Westminster – and what an incredible experience it was!
The event, hosted by Shaun Davies MP, brought together a selection of Shropshire’s finest food and drink producers to showcase the very best our county has to offer. It was a proud moment for our small family-run business to stand alongside local legends like Tilly’s Chocolates, Shropshire Lad, and Planet Doughnut – all bringing a slice of home to the heart of Parliament.
Our journey began in Ironbridge, preparing a fresh batch of our famous handmade pork pies, pasties and sausage rolls. After packing up the van and waving goodbye to the team, we made our way to London, pies in tow and pride in our hearts.
The setting was surreal – the grand rooms of Westminster buzzing with MPs, ministers, and guests, all keen to taste a bit of Shropshire. Our traditional pork pies were a hit, with many first-timers asking for seconds and even thirds!
At Eley’s, we’ve been baking pork pies in the heart of Ironbridge for generations, using the same traditional methods passed down through our family. Events like this give us a real chance to tell our story, champion proper British baking, and remind people just how special regional food can be.
We spoke with politicians, shared our process, and listened to passionate discussions about supporting small businesses and keeping heritage food alive. It was a proud day for us and a reminder of just how far a handmade pie from Shropshire can go.
